Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program
Kentfield's Outpatient Center provides pulmonary rehabilitation for patients with debilitating respiratory diseases. Our five-week Medicare-approved program focuses on education and exercise, benefiting both newly diagnosed and more functionally impaired patients.

Goal
Our goal is to reduce the symptoms and the need for repeat hospitalizations by:

  • decreasing the level of dyspnea
  • reducing severity and frequency of exacerbations
  • improving coping skills
  • increasing physical endurance
  • improving performance of daily activities
  • educating about the disease process

Treatment
Our interdisciplinary team treats each patient using:

  • progressive strengthening and reconditioning
  • instruction in correct breathing techniques
  • pharmaceutical assessment and management
  • relaxation training
  • home exercise programs

Admission Criteria
Admission to our outpatient pulmonary rehabilitation program is based on:

  • physician referral
  • diagnosis of chronic obstructive or restrictive pulmonary disease
  • mild to severe functional pulmonary impairment (class I to III, Gaensler & Wright classification, appendix one), based on pulmonary function tests
  • ability to walk 100 feet within two minutes
  • impaired self-care skills, including limited tolerance for ambulation or daily activities
